Taulav Forest

  • Forest is dying
  • River flowing through forest is cursed
  • River leads out of the forest, through the valley, and down to the Old Lake
  • Upstream is a hhorq village at the base of a waterfall and high cliffs
  • above the waterfall is a plateau of dense jungle with the river leading upriver to a temple at the spring
  • Eva's Temple
    • at the spring, there is a jar (like in Beauty And The Beast, with the flower), which contains a heart.
    • the heart is supposed to be a Pure heart, but currently contains an impure heart that is causing the water to be cursed
  • Forest Guardian, Grelchug
    • forest giant
    • very slow speech, and very kind (he apologizes to a tree whose branch he broke, for an introduction in the distance)
    • ultimately has to be sacrificed for Eva's Heart
    • Raain and Jericho perform the ceremony
  • on road out of town, they pass several other travelers.
  • one traveler is the Train Man
    • trestles appear a foot off the ground and fall, then tracks appear, then a gnome, or hobb, riding a steam train rolls down the track, then the tracks disappear and then the trestles lift out of the ground and vanish, leaving no trace.
    • ...no trace, except blood drops...
    • Train Man stops to talk to the group
      • Did not expect Arun to be there: "My Lord,"
        • Arun gives him a quick look that tells him not to treat him with full Honors (as he should know that Arun is in exile, and in secret)
      • turns to address Turvin, his intended, about his cleaning up of the corpses left behind by Turvin
        • States that it's his Honor-bound Duty to clean up corpses left by a Landless
      • Addresses Raain about post-mortem requirements for the hhorq bodies he's transporting out of the Forest
  • They follow the trail of blood down the road, and then into the fields towards the river as it exits the Forest
    • they camp on the forest edge
    • wake up to find Lemon, the horse, dead....she drank the water.....
      • Tedd, upon recovery, sprints back to town to get Nabal, while the others continue on into the Forest, leaving Grelchug to tend to Lemon if possible
        • Nabal returns with Tedd, Nabal lays his ring on Lemon, but nothing happens, Grelchug suggests melting the ring into Lemon, Nabal reluctantly gives up his Reincarnation Ring, resigning himself to only one more death unless he can accomplish the near impossible task of finding another Ring. Finally, with the Ring magically heated to infusing point, it absorbs into the horse, which reincarnates as giant eagle,
      • After the Reincarnation Ring is infused into Lemon, the former horse has infinite reincarnations.
  • Main group finds the temple, discovers what must be done, and then returns to retrieve Grelchug
    • arrive to find a giant golden eagle with Tedd, Nabal, and Grelchug
    • Turvin wildshapes into a giant brown eagle, and the two eagles carry everyone back to the temple for the sacrifice.
  • After Grelchug's sacrifice, and his heart being placed in the jar, with Jericho singing the correct song, the grey water turns gold and then clear
  • The forest very slowly begins to glow blue again, from the along the river banks, slowly outward and then upward (it's a lot of water and very permeable soil)
  • but the river is long and a lot of cursed water has already entered the valley heading towards Old Lake
  • They leave on the eagles as the forest comes back to life, heading towards Old Lake to warn the Vulswynn of the coming poisoned water, and the death that follows it.
