Health Points are based on the total combined skill modifiers from Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, and Wisdom.

Additional resistances are based on armor, weapon defense, and martial skill.

Whereas we are accustomed to hit points, gaining huge health at high levels, able to take injury beyond reasonability, such as the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this is about damage reduction from armor, and the skill to avoid an attack. More realistic combat of blocking and dodging and armor resistances.
