Cities built around and powered by giant clockwork gears which power every home and business. Businesses and higher-class homes will have their own power generator while most neighborhoods use one generator for dozens of homes.
A few of the larger gears are also public transportation around the city or around sections within the cities. However, riding on gears that are not official public transportation is illegal and results in public service of cleaning gear shafts and overnight stays in the local jail.
Gear cities are not known for being quiet.
